Thinking About Fillers? Science And Experience Matter.

If you’re thinking about eliminating volume loss, sagging, and wrinkles in your face with fillers, you’re not alone. According to the 2020 Plastic Surgery Statistics Report by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, Americans underwent 15.6 million cosmetic procedures in that year, of which 4.4 million were Botox, Jeuveau, and Xeomin, and 3.4 million were soft tissue fillers. Volume-enhancing fillers like Juvéderm, Belotero, and Radiesse can lift cheeks, minimize deep lines around the nose, fill in hollows under eyes, and even rejuvenate the hands when in the hands of an experienced Aesthetic Physician like Dr. Francis Toscano, M.D., FACEP, Medical Director of Red Bamboo Medi-Spa.

Dr. Toscano has been named a “Master Injector” by Allergan, the maker of Juvéderm, and a “Platinum Level” Injector by Merz, the maker of Radiesse and Belotero. Dr. Toscano has been an aesthetic injector for over 14 years. His expertise is key to improving facial contours with fillers for subtle, natural-looking, and beautiful results.

What are the differences between fillers and neuromodulators?

Neuromodulators (like Botox, Jeuveau, and Xeomin) “freeze” muscles to reduce wrinkles, while fillers smooth out the skin by filling in hollows, volume loss, and deep wrinkles. Due to its ability to store moisture, hyaluronic acid is perfect for giving skin a plump, hydrated look—both in the face and the hands.  Your body’s natural production of hyaluronic acid diminishes as you age, so injectable HA helps to replenish and plump up the skin.

Typically, fillers are used in the lower face, in areas where there are wrinkles and volume loss.  Neurotoxins are primarily for the upper face and are used to soften lines between the eyes and lift the brows.  An Aesthetic Physician has a thorough understanding of facial anatomy, and knows which injectable is right for your specific need.

For instance, Juvéderm and RHA(Resilient Hyaluronic Acid) Fillers are good for addressing volume loss in the lips, and marionettes. Belotero offers some unique qualities not found in other fillers. It is thinner, smooth, and completely colorless, making it ideal for filling in fine lines, wrinkles, and etchings. In fact, it is the only filler Dr. Toscano uses for the tear troughs and the hollows under the eyes.  Radiesse and RHA(Resilient Hyaluronic Acid) fillers are the preferred fillers for the elevation of cheeks to correct mid-face volume loss.

What areas are most commonly treated with dermal filler injections

In the face, the most common areas for treatment with facial fillers are the tear troughs (under eyes), the lips, around the mouth, the nose (non-surgical rhinoplasty), the jaw, and the chin. Signs of aging, such as crow’s feet, smile lines, frown lines, and a dimpled chin can be corrected with the proper application of neuromodulators like Botox, Jeuveau, and Xeomin.

Like your face and neck, your hands are likely to become thinner and more wrinkled as you age.  Dr. Toscano was the first physician in Pinellas County to inject filler into the hands. He prefers Radiesse for this treatment, which is delivered through 1.5 cc syringes that provide more volume than other fillers.

How long do fillers last?

Radiesse facial filler can typically last for up to 12 months and sometimes longer. For filler treatment to the lips, a topical numbing cream is applied for 30 minutes prior to treatment as well as the application of ice, and lidocaine is added to the filler for patient comfort. Juvéderm, RHA, and Belotero typically need a maintenance treatment typically from nine to 12 months, while neuromodulators like Jeuveau, Xeomin, and Botox, are usually re-injected every three to four months.  The level of discomfort is very minimal during a neuromodulator treatment due to expert guidance of the tiny needle by a Board-certified Aesthetic Physician like Dr. Frank Toscano.
