Acne, What Causes it andHow Can I Treat It?

Acne is caused by the over abundance of propioni acnes bacteria that is found in human sebum (oil) on the skin. Heredity plays a significant role in the production of acne. Typically, acne is seen in oilier skin types. Hormones also play a role in the development of acne. Unfortunately, there is no cure for acne. Acne is a condition that has to be managed in order to be one step ahead of it.

Cleansers that contain salicylic acid, glycolic acid, or a combination of both, are highly effective at reducing the bacteria count on the skin which in turn reduces the chance of an acne breakout. Twice daily cleansing of the skin is all the cleansing that is needed. Cleansing more than twice a day can cause the skin to produce more oil which can lead to more breakouts. Changing the pillowcase 3 to 4 times per week and cleaning off the cell phone screen, can greatly reduce the transference of acne bacteria. Drinking 6 to 8 glasses of water, taking a probiotic, eating more fruits and veggies, and staying away from high sodium content foods can also lessen breakouts. Deep cleansing European facials, and facial peels can also help to lessen breakouts, improve acne scars, and fade acne marks. One facial is not going to magically get rid of the acne. Bi weekly or monthly Facials, usage of acne skin care products, lifestyle, and managing your stress level, is a multifaceted approach to this condition that will achieve the greatest results and improve overall skin health. More severe cases of acne, such as acne conglobata (a severe cystic nodular type), will require to be under the care of a Dermatologist with possible administration of an oral and/or topical medication.
