It seems that every other corner is sprouting something called a “medical spa/cosmetic center” this year.
For the barely informed, these are clinics that are a combination of medical clinic for aesthetic procedures and a spa for relaxation and skin care therapy. To put it more simply, they are centers where you can get a facial, massage and Botox treatment without leaving the building.
The Danger of Unlicensed Practitioners
Unfortunately, there are a bunch of businesses opening under the name “medical spa/cosmetics center” that are unlicensed, ill-equipped and ill-prepared to safely administer either the massages or inject the Botox.
Nightmarish results that have shown up in emergency rooms around the state include a woman injected with a Botox-Oil solution.
The combination was recently administered by an untrained and unlicensed practitioner at one of these unregulated medical spas in Orlando and the patient died that night.
Furthermore, for some reason, all the misfits in the world decide to open their practices in Florida! Before you enter a medical spa/cosmetic center do some investigating.
So, what should you look for when choosing a medical spa?
The first clue as to whether the spa is safe and legitimate is to find out who owns it. Is the owner a medical physician licensed in your state and board certified in his field?
Or, is the owner a dentist who is licensed in the field of dentistry but has minimal knowledge or experience in emergency care if something goes wrong?
Some people may have an allergic reaction to even the best quality Botox available resulting in health complications that need immediate treatment. If the center you choose does not use a medical physician, preferably Certified in Emergency Medicine, who will know how to handle such a reaction and has the proper equipment to treat you immediately, it could be the worst day of your life.
Choosing a medical spa/cosmetic treatment center is an important health decision not to be taken lightly. If you do it with care, you will have one of the best experiences of your life.
